Rhynie Mould
Jennifer used an experimental practice-based process to investigate moulds excavated from a high status Pictish site for the Northern Picts Project / Rhynie Environs Project with Archaeologists Dr Alice Waterson and Dr Gordon Nobel.
Jennifer worked with 3D printed scans of 4th – 6th century clay moulds excavated in Rhynie. She managed to extract wax/silver zoomorphic casts taken from the 3D printed moulds which haven’t been seen since the period they were made. She carved back the zoomorphic boar/canine forms from the initial rough casts to speculate their intended finished form. The casts and moulds, along with film and images of the development process were exhibited as part of the Northern Picts Project, Tarbat Discovery Centre in October 2019.
